This house is a rare and amazing example of a building made in the Beaux Arts style. Because of its special design, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1982. This means it's an important historical building worth protecting!

What Makes Beleden House Special?

Beleden House is found in a part of Bristol called Federal Hill. This area was very popular and fancy in the early 1900s. The house sits on the east side of Bellevue Avenue.

How the House Looks

Beleden House is a two-story building made of orange bricks. It has a cool U-shape when you look at it from above. The roof is sloped, which is called a hip roof.

The front of the house is very grand. It has a big, round porch with four tall columns. These columns are in the Ionic style, which means they have scroll-like shapes at the top. The corners of the house also have brick decorations that match the columns.

Inside the U-shape of the house, there's a special area called a palm court. This court has an arched walkway. The inside of the house is super fancy! It has beautiful wooden details and different kinds of colorful marble from other countries. There's even a music room with an organ!

Who Built Beleden House?

The house was built for a man named William Sessions. He was an important person in Bristol, working as a merchant and a banker. The architect who designed this amazing house was Samuel J. Brown, from Boston, Massachusetts.

The land around Beleden House was once much bigger. It used to stretch out to the east and south. This large area was designed by a landscape artist named Ernest W. Bowditch. Over time, some of the land was sold and other houses were built there. Today, the house sits on a smaller piece of land, about 1.7 acres. Even with less land, Beleden House is still a very important and beautiful building in its neighborhood.
