Belger Arts Center facts for kids
The Belger Arts Center (often called BAC) is a special place in Kansas City, Missouri. It's a non-profit organization, which means it's not trying to make money. Instead, its main goal is to share amazing art with everyone. It has a big collection of beautiful artworks and also hosts exciting art shows for people to visit.
What Art Can You See?
The Belger Arts Center puts on three new art shows, called exhibitions, every year. Since the year 2000, BAC has shown many different kinds of art. You might see cool ceramics (art made from clay), colorful paintings, or interesting sculptures. They also feature modern art like digital photo projections and classic black-and-white photography.
The Amazing Art Collection
Besides the changing exhibitions, the BAC is home to a huge art collection. This collection belongs to the John and Maxine Belger Family Foundation. It has more than 1,500 pieces of fine art, mostly by American artists from the late 1900s.
The collection includes many works by famous artists like Jasper Johns, William Christenberry, Renee Stout, Robert Stackhouse, Terry Winters, Terry Allen, Don Reitz, and William Wiley. Because they have so many pieces by these artists, the BAC can lend entire shows of their art to other museums across the country.
For example, in the spring of 2006, complete art shows from the BAC were displayed at Texas Tech University, the Untitled [ArtSpace] in Oklahoma City, and the St. Petersburg Arts Center in Florida. Also, two artworks by William Christenberry from the BAC's collection were loaned to the Smithsonian American Art Museum. They were part of a year-long special exhibit about Mr. Christenberry's art career.
