Belger Arts Center facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

The Belger Arts Center (often called BAC) is a special place in Kansas City, Missouri. It's a non-profit organization, which means it uses its money to help people and share art, not to make a profit. The BAC is home to a fantastic collection of fine art. It also hosts exciting art shows for everyone to enjoy.

Explore Amazing Art: Exhibitions

The Belger Arts Center puts on three new art shows every year. Since the year 2000, they have shown many different kinds of art. You might see beautiful ceramics, colorful paintings, or cool sculptures. They also feature digital art, like photo projections, and classic black-and-white photographs. There's always something new to discover!

The Belger Art Collection

Besides the temporary shows, the BAC has a huge permanent collection. This is called the John and Maxine Belger Family Foundation collection. It has over 1,500 pieces of fine art! Most of these artworks are by American artists from the late 1900s.

Famous Artists in the Collection

The collection includes many works by important artists. You can find art by Jasper Johns, William Christenberry, and Renee Stout. Other artists featured are Robert Stackhouse, Terry Winters, and Terry Allen. Works by Don Reitz and William Wiley are also part of this amazing collection.

Sharing Art with Other Museums

Because the BAC has so many pieces by these artists, they can lend them out. They often send entire exhibits of one artist's work to other museums. This means art from the BAC can be seen all over the country! For example, in 2006, some BAC exhibits traveled to Texas Tech University. They also went to the Untitled [ArtSpace] in Oklahoma City. Another stop was the St. Petersburg Arts Center in Florida.

The BAC also loaned two artworks by William Christenberry to the Smithsonian American Art Museum. These pieces were part of a big show about his career. They were on display for a whole year!
