Belikin beer is made by the Belize Brewing Company, Ltd. This company belongs to the Bowen family. They started the brewing company in 1969. Belikin Beer and Belikin Stout were first brewed in 1971. The company's famous saying is "The Beer of Belize".
The name "Belikin" comes from the ancient Maya language. It means "Route to the East". Some people think this term might be where the name "Belize" came from. However, most experts believe "Belize" comes from the Belize River, meaning "muddy". The Belikin label shows a drawing of an old Pre-Columbian Maya temple-pyramid. This temple is found at a place called Altun Ha in Belize.
