Belle Alliance is a small place in Assumption Parish, Louisiana, United States. It is called an "unincorporated community." This means it's a group of homes and businesses that don't have their own local government like a city or town. Instead, it's managed by the larger parish (like a county). Belle Alliance is also part of the Pierre Part area.
History of Belle Alliance
Belle Alliance gets its name from the famous Belle Alliance Plantation. This plantation is a large historical estate located on the east side of Bayou Lafourche. It's about five miles (8 km) away from Donaldsonville.
Early Land Grant
Back in the 1770s, this land was given to a man named Don Juan Vives. He was a doctor and a military officer for the Spanish government. The land covered about 7,000 acres (around 28 square kilometers).
Building the Plantation
The actual Belle Alliance Plantation house was built much later, around 1846. It was constructed by Charles Anton Kock, who was a very successful sugar planter. He also owned another plantation nearby called St. Emma Plantation.
Belle Alliance Today
Today, the area where the plantation once stood is known as the community of Belle Alliance. The historic plantation itself is very important. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This means it's recognized by the United States government as a place worth preserving because of its history.
