Belvin Perry Jr. was born on October 10, 1949, in Orlando, Florida. He is a lawyer who used to be a chief judge in Florida. He is known for leading some important court cases.
Early Life and Education
Belvin Perry Jr.'s father, Belvin Perry Sr., was one of the first African-American police officers in Orlando. He was born in 1920 and passed away in 1995.
Belvin Perry Jr. went to Tuskegee University. He earned his first degree, a Bachelor of Science in History, in 1972. Two years later, in 1974, he earned a Master of Education degree from the same university.
He then studied law at Texas Southern University's Thurgood Marshall School of Law. He received his law degree, called a Juris Doctor, in 1977. Belvin Perry Jr. is also a member of the Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity.
A Career in Law
Judge Perry has been involved in some very public trials in Central Florida. He worked as a prosecutor, which means he was the lawyer who tried to prove someone broke the law. He also served as a Circuit Court Judge, where he oversaw trials and made sure rules were followed.
One case he worked on as a prosecutor was called Florida v. Buenoaño. In this case, a person named Judy Buenoano was found responsible for serious crimes.
As a judge, he oversaw a very well-known case involving Casey Anthony. The jury in that case found Ms. Anthony not guilty of certain serious charges. However, she was found guilty of giving false information to a police officer.
In 2014, Judge Perry retired from his role as a judge. After retiring, he joined a law firm in Orlando called Morgan & Morgan. There, he works as a personal-injury attorney, helping people who have been hurt.
