Ben Jones's Rugby League Journey
Starting with the Sydney Roosters
Ben began his top-level rugby league career with the Sydney Roosters. He played his very first game in the National Rugby League (NRL) in 2008. This big moment happened in round 23 against the Melbourne Storm.
In the 2009 NRL season, Ben played 21 games for the Roosters. That year, the team finished last in the competition. This was the first time they had been in last place since 1966.
Playing for the Indigenous All Stars
In 2010, Ben was chosen to join the Indigenous All Stars team. This team plays a special yearly game against the NRL All Stars. Ben got to play because another player, PJ Marsh, had to pull out due to an injury.
The Roosters made it to the NRL Grand Final in 2010. This is the biggest game of the season. Even though Ben was not in the final team for that match, the Roosters played against the St George Illawarra Dragons. They did not win the Grand Final that year.
Moving to the North Queensland Cowboys
After playing 27 NRL games for the Roosters, Ben moved to the North Queensland Cowboys for the 2011 season. The Roosters could not keep him because of the NRL's salary cap rules. The salary cap is a limit on how much money teams can spend on player salaries.
During the 2011 NRL season, Ben showed his skill by stepping in for the Cowboys' captain, Johnathan Thurston. He played in the important halfback position.
Returning to Sydney and New Teams
In 2013, Ben Jones returned to the Sydney Roosters. He played for their reserve grade team, the Newtown Jets. Reserve grade is a level of competition below the main NRL games.
In November 2013, it was announced that Ben would join the Parramatta Eels. He joined them for a "train and trial" period before the 2014 season. This meant he would train with the team and try to earn a full contract.
