Bengt Hassis is best known for winning the Vasaloppet race two times. This is a very long and challenging cross-country ski race in Sweden. He won it in 1985 and again in 1986.
Breaking Records
In 1986, when Bengt won the Vasaloppet, he set a new record for the fastest time. This record stood for many years! It was finally broken in 1998 by another skier named Peter Göransson.
Life After Racing
After his successful racing career, Bengt Hassis continued to be involved in skiing. Today, he works as a cross-country skiing instructor in Grönklitt. He helps new skiers learn and improve their skills. Bengt also has a brother, Ola Hassis, who is also a well-known Swedish cross-country skier.
