Early Life and Family Background
Benjamin Zachary Bronfman was born in New York City. His mother is Sherry Brewer Bronfman, an actress. His father is Edgar Bronfman Jr., who used to lead Warner Music Group. Benjamin has two sisters, Hannah and Vanessa.
Through his grandmother, Ann Loeb Bronfman, he is connected to the important Lehman family. This family founded a well-known investment bank called Lehman Brothers.
Benjamin lived in London for a short time when his father worked for Seagram Distilleries Europe. The family moved back to New York in 1984.
Benjamin went to Collegiate High School in New York City. He finished school there in 2000. Later, he studied politics and law at Emerson College in Boston, Massachusetts.
Working for a Cleaner Planet
In 2007, Benjamin Bronfman became very interested in cleaning carbon dioxide from the Earth's air. He teamed up with Columbia University economist Graciela Chichilnisky. Together, they started Global Thermostat. Benjamin is a co-founder and a director there.
Global Thermostat built its first test plant in November 2010. This plant showed how their technology could work.

Music Career and Achievements
Benjamin has loved music since he was a child. In high school, he met Gunnar Olsen, and they played in different bands. One of these bands became The Exit in 2000. Benjamin met Jeff DaRosa while they were at Emerson College.
Benjamin was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Rap Song. This was for his work on Kanye West's song "New Slaves" from the album Yeezus. He also helped produce the song "Monster". This song was on Kanye West's Grammy-winning album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.
Benjamin Bronfman also started Green Owl. This record label focuses on helping the environment.

Benjamin Bronfman met British rapper M.I.A. in 2008. They got engaged, and their son was born on February 13, 2009. They announced their separation in February 2012.
Helping Others and Activism
Since 2010, Benjamin Bronfman has supported efforts to change laws. .....
He has also served on the boards of several non-profit groups. These include Pioneer Works, Liberty Science Center, Americans for Safe Access, and 15 Percent Pledge.
