The Benjamin Franklin Prescott House is a special old house in Epping, New Hampshire. It was built in 1875 for a very important person named Benjamin Franklin Prescott. He was a politician who later became the Governor of New Hampshire. This house is a great example of a building style called "Second Empire architecture" in Epping. It was added to the list of historic places in 1987.

About the Prescott House

The Benjamin Franklin Prescott House is located in a quiet, countryside area. It sits west of the center of Epping. You can find it on the east side of Prescott Street. The house faces south, looking out over a bend in the road.

What the House Looks Like

This house is two-and-a-half stories tall. It is made of wood and covered with wooden clapboards. A special type of roof called a "bellcast mansard roof" covers the house. This roof has a unique shape with curved, flaring edges.

The house also has decorative cornerboards. These are flat, paneled pieces on the corners of the building. You can also see paired brackets under the roof's edges. These are small, decorative supports. The front porch is also very detailed and fancy. A smaller, one-and-a-half story section extends from the back of the main house.

The Carriage Barn

Across Prescott Street, there is an old carriage barn. This building was once used to store carriages. It has now been changed into a home. However, it still has many features that match the house's "Second Empire" style.

Who Was Benjamin Franklin Prescott?

The house was built in 1875 for Benjamin Franklin Prescott. At that time, he was serving his second term. He was the Secretary of State for New Hampshire. This was an important job in the state government.
