Benjamin Franklin Reese (born September 23, 1885 – died January 4, 1943) was an American baseball player. He was a talented pitcher who played in the Negro leagues during the 1910s. These leagues were very important because they allowed African American players to play professional baseball when they were not allowed in the major leagues.

Benjamin Reese was born in Newberry, South Carolina. He began his professional baseball career in 1911. His first team was the Cuban Giants. The Cuban Giants were a well-known team in the early days of the Negro leagues.

Playing in the Negro Leagues

Reese played as a pitcher, which is the player who throws the baseball from the mound to the batter. After playing for the Cuban Giants, he later joined the Brooklyn All Stars in 1914. This team was part of the Western Independent Clubs. These independent clubs were professional teams that played against each other, often traveling to different cities.

Benjamin Reese passed away in Syracuse, New York in 1943. He was 57 years old. Even though his career was short, he was part of an important time in baseball history.
