Benoît's Early Life and Musical Start
Benoît Delbecq was born in Saint-Germain-en-Laye, France. He grew up in a family that loved music. He started learning to play the piano when he was seven years old.

In 1983, he met a famous jazz pianist named Mal Waldron. Mal Waldron encouraged Benoît to create his own music. Benoît worked as an assistant director for films and in sound engineering for a while.
However, his passion for music led him to become a professional musician. This happened after he attended a jazz workshop in Canada in 1987. There, he learned from well-known musicians like Dave Holland and Steve Coleman. He also studied music composition and piano at conservatories in France. In 1990, he met drummer Steve Argüelles, who became a long-time music partner.
