Benoît Violier (born August 22, 1971 – died January 31, 2016) was a famous chef from France and Switzerland. He was known for his amazing cooking skills.
Violier owned a very special restaurant called Restaurant de l'Hôtel de Ville. It was located in a town near Lausanne, Switzerland. This restaurant had three Michelin stars, which are like top awards for restaurants. In December 2015, his restaurant was even named the best in the world by a guide called La Liste.

Benoît Violier was born in Saintes, Charente-Maritime, France. He loved cooking from a young age. In 1991, he moved to Paris to learn from some of the best chefs. These included famous names like Joël Robuchon and Benoît Guichard.
In 1996, Violier moved to Switzerland. There, he worked with another great chef, Philippe Rochat. When Rochat retired in 2012, Benoît Violier took over the restaurant. He became the main chef and owner. In 2014, he also became a citizen of Switzerland.
