Music Career
Benzino has said that the movie Wild Style was a big reason he wanted to become a rapper. He was a founding member of the hip-hop groups The Almighty RSO and Made Men.
Since 2012, he has also appeared on the reality TV show Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta.
Disagreement with Eminem
Starting in 2002, Benzino became known for a famous disagreement with the rapper Eminem. The issue began after The Source magazine gave Eminem's album, The Eminem Show, a rating of four out of five "mics." Eminem felt the rating was unfair and blamed Benzino and the magazine.
This led to both artists releasing "diss tracks," which are songs made to criticize another person. Benzino released songs like "Pull Your Skirt Up" and "... Another Day." In response, Eminem released songs like "The Sauce" and "Nail in the Coffin." To continue the feud, Benzino released a mixtape called Benzino Presents: ... Another Day: Flawless Victory, which included more songs about Eminem.
Personal Life
Benzino's father, Edward DeJesus, was Puerto Rican, and his mother, Mary Scott, was Black American and Cape Verdean. He has two sisters, Anita Scott-Wilson and Maureen Scott.
In 2021, Benzino had a public disagreement with his daughter, rapper Coi Leray, after she mentioned him in her song "No More Parties".
Benzino has been in relationships with Karlie Redd and Althea Heart. He and Althea have a son, who was born in November 2015. They later appeared on the TV show Marriage Boot Camp to talk about their relationship.
In March 2014, Benzino was injured in an incident involving his nephew in Duxbury, Massachusetts, after attending his mother's funeral.
