On May 26, 1924, a special law (Law Nº 7.720) officially declared it a "Pueblo," which means a village. Later, on January 11, 1956, another law (Law Nº 12.271) changed its name to "Bernabé Rivera." This new name honors a person named Bernabé Rivera, though the article doesn't say who he was.
