Bernard Mendy is a French former professional footballer. He was born on August 20, 1981. He played as a right-back, which is a defensive position on the right side of the field. Mendy was known for his amazing speed and how he would often run forward to help with attacks. After his playing career, he became an assistant manager for Paris Saint-Germain Féminine, a women's football team.
Bernard Mendy started his professional football journey with Caen in 1998. In 2000, he moved to Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), where he played for eight years. During this time, he also spent a season on loan at Bolton Wanderers in England. Later, he played for Hull City and OB. He then returned to France to play for Brest. Towards the end of his career, he played for Indian clubs like Chennaiyin FC and East Bengal FC, and also for AEL Limassol in Cyprus.

Bernard Mendy's Playing Career
Bernard Mendy was a big fan of Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) since he was a child. His dream came true in 2000 when he joined PSG from SM Caen.
Time at Paris Saint-Germain
Mendy showed great skill in his first two seasons at PSG. However, he was loaned to Bolton Wanderers in England for a year. There, people liked his attacking and fast style of play. When a new manager, Vahid Halilhodzic, came to PSG, he gave Mendy a chance to be a regular starter. Mendy played one of his best seasons that year.
He was rewarded by playing his first match for the French national team against Brazil. Even though he played well, he was not chosen for the 2006 FIFA World Cup team. In 2008, he scored a very important goal in the final of the Coupe de la Ligue. This was a cup competition in France. He scored from a penalty kick, helping PSG win 2–1 against RC Lens.
Moving to England and Denmark
Bernard Mendy had said he wanted to go back to England to play for his favorite club, Manchester United. But on June 20, 2008, Hull City offered him a three-year contract. Hull City had just been promoted to the top English league. Mendy accepted the offer and joined Hull City. The manager, Phil Brown, had been an assistant manager at Bolton when Mendy played there.
Mendy scored his first goal for Hull City against Manchester United. It was a clever lob over the goalkeeper, but Hull City lost the game 4–3. He left Hull City on May 17, 2010. On February 9, 2011, Mendy signed a contract with OB, a Danish club. He played there for a year and a half.
Return to France and India
On June 25, 2012, Mendy returned to play in the French league. He signed a two-year contract with Stade Brestois as a free player.
On August 21, 2014, Mendy was chosen in the first round of the ISL International Draft. He signed with Chennaiyin FC, an Indian club. He played in their first match on October 15, which they won 2–1 against FC Goa.
On January 12, 2016, Mendy signed to play for East Bengal, another Indian club, for the 2015–16 season. For the 2016 ISL season, he went back to Chennaiyin for his final season. He played 9 games and scored two goals. Chennaiyin had a tough season, finishing 7th. Bernard Mendy decided to end his playing career after the 2016 ISL season.
Bernard Mendy's Coaching Career
In December 2017, Bernard Mendy became an assistant manager for Paris Saint-Germain Féminine. This is the women's football team of Paris Saint-Germain.
In 2018, the main manager left before a big cup final. Mendy took over as caretaker manager for the final of the 2017–18 Coupe de France féminine. He led his team to a 1–0 victory against Lyon, who had won the cup six times in a row. This was only the second major title in the team's history. After this, he continued his role as assistant manager.
