Bernard Wilson's Early Life and Music
Bernard Wilson grew up in North Philadelphia. He lived in the Strawberry Mansion neighborhood. Bernard's parents passed away when he was young. His grandmother then raised him. He went to Bok Technical High School. But at age 16, he left home to become an entertainer.
In 1970, Bernard joined Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes. Harold Melvin was also from Philadelphia. When Teddy Pendergrass joined the group, they became very successful. Their first album was released by Philadelphia International Records. This record label was run by Kenneth Gamble and Leon Huff.
Big Hits with The Blue Notes
The group's first album had three hit songs. These songs appeared on the Billboard music charts. In the early to mid-1970s, the group had many big hits. These included "If You Don't Know Me by Now," "The Love I Lost," "Don't Leave Me This Way," and "Bad Luck."
Other popular songs followed, like "I Miss You" and "Wake Up Everybody." The band released five albums that sold millions of copies. Bernard Wilson stayed with the Blue Notes for six albums. He left the group in 1977. This was shortly after Teddy Pendergrass also left. Bernard wanted to start a solo career.
Bernard Wilson's Later Years
Bernard Wilson hoped to sing gospel music later in his life. However, he performed less due to health issues. His last performance was in the 1990s. He sang at the Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City.

Bernard Wilson passed away on December 26, 2010. He was 64 years old. He died from problems caused by a stroke and a heart attack.
