Bernardo Salim Ribeiro (born 9 October 1989 – died 7 May 2016) was a Brazilian footballer. He played as an attacking midfielder, which means he helped both defend and attack for his team. Bernardo loved football from a young age. He played for clubs in Europe, Australia, and Brazil during his career. Sadly, he passed away after feeling unwell during a match for an amateur club in Brazil.

Early Life and Passion for Football
Bernardo grew up in Nova Friburgo, a city in Brazil. He first tried basketball at age 5, but soon found his true passion in football. He was very dedicated to the sport. Bernardo also had an Italian passport, which helped him play in Europe later on.
Youth Career at Flamengo
When he was just 9 years old, Bernardo was noticed by Flamengo, a famous Brazilian football club. He joined their youth academy in 1999. He played through different youth levels and even became a captain. During his time at Flamengo, he was known for his accurate passes and ability to understand the game.
Playing in Europe: Albania and Finland
In February 2011, Bernardo moved to Europe. He joined KF Skënderbeu Korçë, a club in Albania. In the 2011-2012 season, his team won the Albanian league title. Bernardo played in five matches and scored one goal for them. He also played in two matches for the Champions League Qualification.
After Albania, Bernardo moved to Finland in 2013. He joined IFK Mariehamn, a first-division club. He quickly became an important player, starting in 13 matches and scoring two goals. His team finished 4th in the league that year. In 2014, he played in 19 more league matches for them.
Time in Australia with Newcastle Jets
On 6 August 2012, Bernardo signed with Newcastle Jets, an A-League club in Australia. He played in six matches for the Jets. He was part of the starting team three times. His team finished 8th in the league that season.
Return to Brazil
After his time abroad, Bernardo returned to Brazil. In August 2015, he joined EC Internacional in the state of Santa Catarina. Later, he had the chance to return to his hometown of Nova Friburgo and play for Friburguense AC.
In February 2016, Bernardo married Katie Ayscough, whom he met while playing in Australia. In the 2016 Rio de Janeiro State Championship, he played in nine matches for Friburguense AC.
Sad Passing
After the season ended, Bernardo joined an amateur club called Ideal EC in Recreio, Brazil. On 7 May 2016, during a match, he felt unwell just before half-time. He was taken off the field and sadly passed away later that evening at the hospital.
