The Berry Brothers Bolt Works is an old factory building in Columbus, Ohio, United States. For over 100 years, starting in 1888, this factory made important machine parts called bolts. What's really cool is that it used the same machines it started with! This building is a very famous factory in Columbus and became a historic site when it turned 100 years old.

What Does the Building Look Like?
The Berry Brothers factory is made of brick and has an asphalt roof. It sits on a strong foundation made of limestone. The building has three floors, and you'll see lots of windows, often in pairs, all over its front.
Typical Factory Design
This factory looks a lot like other factories built around the same time. It has strong brick walls and a gabled roof (a roof that slopes down on two sides). You can also spot smaller details like:
- Wooden windows with many small glass panes.
- A tall, four-story tower that holds a staircase.
- A clerestory, which is a high section of wall with windows to let in light.
A Factory That Made Bolts
In the late 1800s, Columbus had many factories. They built things like buggies and different kinds of machine tools. The Berry Brothers built their factory in 1888 just to make bolts for these other businesses.
A Business That Lasted
Another company that started at the same time didn't last long. But the Berry Brothers' business did very well! They made the building much bigger in 1900, and then added another large section ten years later. Even as cars replaced buggies, the factory kept going. It used its original machines from the 1880s all the way into the 1980s!
Today, the building is no longer a factory. It was bought in 2000 with plans to fix it up. After some delays, the renovation work finally started in 2004.
A Historic Landmark
In early 1988, the Berry Brothers Bolt Works was added to the National Register of Historic Places. This means it's officially recognized as an important historic place. It qualified for this honor because of:
- Its special architecture.
- Its important role in the local history of Columbus.
- Its potential to teach us about old factories as an industrial archaeological site.
