Who Were the Berryhills?
The Berryhill family were among the first people to settle in Sugarcreek Township. Alexander and Rachel Berryhill moved there from Virginia. Alexander was a soldier in the Continental Army. This was the army that fought for America's freedom during the American Revolutionary War.
Alexander was wounded in a battle. He was captured and became a prisoner of war. After two years, he was set free. He then moved to Ohio with his family in 1814. Alexander became an important leader in the township. He had eleven children. His son, Samuel, inherited the farm. Samuel continued farming until he passed away in 1840.
