The Story of Berryton
Berryton has an interesting past. It was not always called Berryton. Long ago, this area was known as "Raccoon." This name came from a local factory that made cloth, called a textile mill, which also had the name Raccoon.
How Berryton Got Its Name
The name changed to Berryton because of a man named John Berry. He owned the textile mill in the area. A post office was opened in Berryton in 1910. It helped people send and receive mail for many years. However, the post office eventually closed down in 1956. Even though the post office is gone, the name Berryton has stayed.
