Bertalan Peak is a tall mountain peak located in a very cold place called Antarctica! It stands high at 2,320 meters (that's about 7,611 feet) above sea level. This peak is found in a part of Antarctica known as Victoria Land, specifically in the Victory Mountains.

Where is Bertalan Peak?

This impressive peak is on the northwest side of the Montecchi Glacier. The Montecchi Glacier is a large river of ice that flows slowly down a valley. Bertalan Peak is located in an area called the Borchgrevink Coast. This coast is part of the much larger Victoria Land in Antarctica.

How Bertalan Peak Got Its Name

Scientists from the United States Geological Survey mapped Bertalan Peak. They used information from their own surveys and also from air photos taken by the United States Navy. This mapping work happened between 1960 and 1964.

The peak was named by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names. They chose the name to honor Robert E. Bertalan. He was a chief machinery repairman for the U.S. Navy. Robert Bertalan worked at McMurdo Station in Antarctica in 1967. McMurdo Station is a research center and the largest community in Antarctica.
