Beth Goobie (born 1959) is a Canadian poet and fiction writer. She is well-known for writing books for young adults, but she also writes poetry and stories for children and adults.

Life and Education

Beth Goobie grew up in Guelph, Ontario, Canada. She went to the University of Winnipeg where she studied English Literature. She also studied Religious Studies at the Mennonite Brethren Bible College. After working with young people in Winnipeg and Edmonton, she moved to Saskatoon, where she lives today.

Writing Journey

Beth Goobie started her writing career by publishing poems. Her very first poems, "To the Creator" and "The Making," appeared in Edges Literary Magazine in 1987. Since then, her poems and stories have been featured in many Canadian literary magazines like The Fiddlehead and Malahat Review. A special poem of hers, "Civilization lives in the throat," was even chosen for a book called 2021 Best Canadian Poetry.

As of 2017, Beth Goobie has written 25 books! Most of these books, 18 of them, are for young adults. She has also written one book for children, one novel for adults, two collections of short stories, and three collections of poetry.
