Alberto "Beto" Pérez (born March 15, 1970) is a famous dancer and businessman from Colombia. He is best known for creating Zumba, a super popular fitness program. Zumba mixes fun dance moves with aerobic exercise. It often uses exciting Latin music and includes steps from martial arts, squats, and lunges.

Beto's Early Life

Beto grew up in Cali, Colombia, with just his mom. By the time he was 14, he was working three jobs to help his family. Even with all that work, his biggest dream was to dance. He couldn't afford dance lessons, but he didn't give up.

One day, Beto won a national lambada dance contest in Colombia! This win helped him get into one of Cali's best dance schools. In return for his lessons, he taught step aerobics there.

How Zumba Became a Business

In 1999, Beto moved to Miami, Florida, hoping to make his dreams come true. He taught aerobics classes and tried to share his unique dance and fitness routines. He used music to make his classes exciting.

In 2001, Beto convinced a fitness director named Brenda Anderson to let him teach his dance routines. In 2003, after his first TV ad, he got help from Alberto Perlman and Alberto Aghion. They helped him create workshops based on his Zumba routines. Soon, his routines, first sold on DVDs, became very popular around the world.

In 2006, Beto started his own company, Zumba Fitness LLC. This company sells Zumba videos and products. It also charges a fee to instructors who want to teach Zumba. Today, the company has over 200 employees. Millions of people in many countries enjoy Zumba. They dance and sing to fun music, mostly provided by the company.

Zumba Fitness also has its own clothing line called Zumbawear. They make clothes for all ages, including seniors, moms, and kids. There are different Zumba styles too, like Zumba Toning, Aqua Zumba, and Zumba Kids. You can find Zumba classes in many places, like community centers, schools, and even retirement homes.

Beto's Family Life

On March 15, 2020, which was his 50th birthday, Beto shared some happy news. He announced on Facebook that his daughter, Antonella, was born on January 11, 2020.

Zumba and Music

Through his Zumba classes, Beto Pérez helps promote music and artists. This is especially true for Latin music. The Zumba movement has created a huge fan base for Latin music around the world. Famous artists like Pitbull, Don Omar, and Daddy Yankee have become even more popular because of Zumba. Daddy Yankee's song "Limbo" even mentions Zumba many times!

Stars like Pitbull and Wyclef Jean have joined Zumba Fitness events. Other famous fans include Jennifer Lopez and Shakira.

Zumba Fitness has also released music albums, like Zumba Fitness Dance Party. These albums have music perfect for Zumba classes. Beto has even worked with Colombian singer Mara Prada on a hit song called "Crazy Love." He also collaborated with Brazilian star Claudia Leitte. She is now a global ambassador for Zumba Fitness. Beto was also a special guest on the song "Fiesta Buena" by DJ Mam's. This song was popular in France and Belgium.
