What is an Anthropologist?

An anthropologist is a scientist who studies people. They look at human behavior, cultures, and societies. They try to understand how people live, think, and interact with their world. Bettina Hauge uses anthropology to understand how natural things affect our daily lives.

Bettina's Journey

Bettina Hauge was born on December 5, 1964. She went to high school in Kastrup, Denmark. Later, she studied economics at the Copenhagen Business School, finishing in 1992. After that, she decided to study anthropology at the University of Copenhagen in 1996. She earned her Master's degree in 2002. She then continued her studies, earning two doctorates (Ph.D. in 2008 and Post.doc in 2011) from the same university.

Making a Difference: Her Work

Besides her research at the University of Copenhagen, Bettina Hauge has worked with different companies.

Improving Products

From 2007 to 2009, she was a project manager at Schneider Electric, Denmark. Her work helped make their products much better. She used her understanding of people to improve how products were designed and used.

Understanding Our Homes

From 2009 to 2015, she worked as a consultant for VELUX. Here, she studied how important fresh air from outside is inside our homes. This research helped VELUX understand what people need for comfortable living spaces.

Teaching and Research

At the Technical University of Denmark (from 2012 to 2016), she taught courses on management engineering. She always included the idea of "user experience." This means understanding how people feel when they use a product or service. She believed it was very important for engineers to think about the people who would use their creations.

Understanding Light and People

As an anthropologist, Bettina Hauge has focused on how natural things affect society. She is especially interested in how they impact our everyday lives. For example, she studied how people in Germany and Denmark think about daylight. Her work showed how important light is in different cultures and how it affects our well-being. She helps us see that natural elements are not just part of nature, but also a big part of human life and culture.
