Betty Miller (born Spiro; 1910 – 1965) was an Irish writer. She wrote both novels and non-fiction books. She is known for her interesting stories and her biography of a famous poet.

Betty Spiro was born in Cork, Ireland, in 1910. Her parents, Sara and Simon Spiro, were Jewish and came from Lithuania.

She started writing early in her life. Her first novel, The Mere Living, came out in 1933. She wrote this book while studying journalism at University College, London.

What Made Her Famous?

Betty Miller became well-known for her book about the poet Robert Browning. This biography was published in 1952. It was so good that she was chosen to join the Royal Society of Literature. This is a special group for important writers.

After World War II, Betty Miller wrote for many literary magazines. These included Horizon and The Cornhill Magazine. She wrote seven novels in total. Two of her books are still popular today. These are Farewell, Leicester Square (1941) and On the Side of the Angels (1945).
