Beverly Williams, born on May 22, 1947, is a well-known former news anchor from Philadelphia. She spent many years reporting and sharing important news with people.

Beverly Williams's Career in News

Beverly Williams studied Social Sciences at Portland State University. She started her career as a reporter at KGW-TV. In 1975, she moved to Philadelphia and joined KYW-TV as a weekend anchor. This was a big step, as she became the first Black woman to anchor news in the Philadelphia area.

In 1979, Williams was promoted to anchor the weekday noon news. By May 1981, she was co-anchoring the 6 and 11 PM newscasts during the week with Patrick Amory. She left KYW-TV in November 1981.

From 1981 to 1986, Beverly worked for CNN in Atlanta, Georgia, as a reporter and anchor. After a short break from television news, she joined WTNH-TV in New Haven, Connecticut, where she was a weekend anchor.

In 1989, Williams returned to KYW-TV. She co-anchored the 6 and 11 PM newscasts with Steve Bell. KYW even had a "Beverly's Back" campaign to celebrate her return. In 1991, the news format at KYW changed. Williams and Bell were replaced at the 11 PM slot by Jennifer Ward, but Williams continued to anchor the 6 PM news. In 1992, Beverly became the weekend anchor, a role she held for eight years, from 1992 to 2000.

In February 2000, Williams was given a new role as a senior correspondent for the station. This meant she would report on important stories. In September 2003, Williams also created and produced her own half-hour weekend show called Eye on Philadelphia, which aired on KYW. This show focused on public affairs, discussing important topics for the community.

Personal Life and Achievements

Beverly Williams has one adult daughter. She has received special recognition for her work, including the Clarion Award from Women Communications, Inc. She was also honored for her contributions and support to organizations like the Girl Scouts of the USA and the National Association of Black Journalists.
