Bhotu Pande, also known as Shatrubhanjan, was an important person in the old Kingdom of Nepal. Born in 1763, he was a politician, a military officer, and worked closely with the royal family. He belonged to the famous Pande family from Gorkha. He was the youngest son of Kaji Tularam Pande, who had five sons.
Bhotu Pande's Role in Nepal
Bhotu Pande was a brave military officer. He fought in the Sino-Nepalese War, which was a conflict between Nepal and Tibet (supported by China).
He also held an important position called Kapardar in the royal palace. A Kapardar was like a high-ranking official who managed the palace's affairs and treasures.
His Family's Legacy
Bhotu Pande's son, Balabhanjan Pande, also became an important figure. He was given the title of Sardar, which meant he was a military leader. He was in charge of soldiers and even a cannon!
A statue of Bhotu Pande, showing him with a beard, can be found in a building near the Pashupatinath Temple.
