About Billy Newton-Davis
Billy Newton-Davis grew up in Shaker Heights, Ohio, near Cleveland. When he was younger, he was one of the main singers in a local soul band called The Illusions. He later worked as a singer and dancer on Broadway. In 1980, he moved to Toronto, Ontario, in Canada.
Early Music Career
Billy Newton-Davis released his first album, Love Is a Contact Sport, in 1986. This album was very successful and won a Juno Award for best R&B/soul recording. Some popular songs from this album included "Deeper," "Right Beside You," and "Find My Way Back."
His next album, Spellbound, came out in 1989. This album featured his biggest hit song in Canada, "I Can't Take It." It also included a duet with famous singer Celine Dion called "Can't Live With You, Can't Live Without You." Spellbound also won a Juno Award for best R&B/soul recording, just like his first album.
