What is a Billycart?
Have you ever wondered where the name 'billycart' comes from? It started in Australia around the 1880s. Back then, people used carts pulled by billy goats! Over time, kids started building their own simple carts with wheels. They would race them down hills, trying to go as fast and far as they could without an engine.
How Billycarts are Made
Billycart Kids builds their billycarts using wood from Australian forests that are regrown. Each billycart has four wheels. It has a fixed axle at the back and a steering axle at the front. You steer it using a rope you hold in your hands.
The seat area is enclosed, which makes it safe and also looks cool! These billycarts don't have engines. They are designed to be pushed by a friend or rolled down a hill. Some people say that Linear Park in Adelaide is a great place to ride these billycarts.
The Company Behind the Carts
Billycart Kids works with Orana at their factory in Port Pirie. People there hand-drill, shape, and paint each part. This makes every billycart special and unique.
Billycart Kids says they are the only company in the world that ships this type of product directly to customers. The billycart comes in a flat box, and you need to put it together yourself. It's like building a big model!
Fun Events
On March 28, 2010, Billycart Kids helped sponsor a big event. It was called the Sodexo Roxby Billycart Bash. It took place in Roxby Downs.
More than a hundred racers zoomed down the town's only hill. They used billycarts they made themselves or bought. This exciting event also helped raise money for the Roxby Downs Health Service Auxiliary.
