Bin Xie (谢玢) was born in China in 1957. She is a talented artist who now lives in Sydney, Australia. In 2006, her artwork was chosen as a finalist for the famous Archibald Prize. This is a very important art award in Australia.
Early Life and Education
Bin Xie studied at Chongqing University in China. She earned a science degree in 1982 and a master's degree in 1988. After her studies, she taught mathematics at the university until 1990. That year, she moved to Australia.
She started painting seriously around 2002. She went to the Northern Sydney Institute of TAFE to study fine arts. She received a diploma in 2003. Later, she continued her art studies at the Sydney College of the Arts (SCA). She earned a master's degree in studio arts in 2006.
Her Artworks
One of Bin Xie's most well-known artworks is Bright Smile. It is a portrait of Lindy Lee, who was a senior lecturer at SCA. This painting was her very first entry into the Archibald Prize. Bright Smile was part of a series of ten paintings. These paintings showed Chinese Australian women. Bin Xie created this series as part of her master's project at SCA.
Her painting Bright Smile was even chosen to be on the Archibald street banners that year! A private collector later bought this artwork. You can find Bin Xie's art in many collections. These include public and private collections in Australia, China, the UK, and the US.
Bin Xie has been showing her art since 2002. Her work has been displayed in many places. These include the Chinese Cultural Centre in Chatswood and the Sydney Antique Centre. She has also shown her art at Crossbay Gallery, Eden Gardens, Paddington Contemporary Art Gallery, and Gallery Lane Cove.
