Birch River is a small community in the northern part of Manitoba, Canada. It's a type of local area called a "local urban district" within the larger Rural Municipality of Mountain. Birch River is about 40 kilometers (25 miles) away from the town of Swan River, Manitoba.

In 2021, a count of the population (called a census) showed that 144 people lived in Birch River. These people lived in 80 homes. This number was a bit smaller than in 2016, when 198 people lived there. The community covers a small area of about 1.84 square kilometers (0.71 square miles).

Just two kilometers north of Birch River, you can find the Birch River Ecological Reserve. This is a special protected area, like a natural park, that covers 183 hectares (about 452 acres). It's part of the larger Porcupine Provincial Forest.

In the reserve, you can go for walks and explore nature without needing a special pass. However, if you want to do other activities, you need to get permission first. It's a great place to see local plants and animals!
