What Makes This Frog Special?

Scientists have learned more about the black-striped frog over time. In 2018, they updated how they identify this species. This means that some older information about the black-striped frog might actually be about other similar frog species. Because of this, it's still a bit tricky to be totally sure about frogs found in India and Bangladesh.

Where Does This Frog Live?

The black-striped frog likes to live near gentle streams. These streams are usually found inside evergreen forests. Evergreen forests are places where trees stay green all year round. Sometimes, these frogs also live in areas where there are evergreen trees mixed into forests that lose their leaves in certain seasons.

How Does This Frog Grow?

Like many frogs, the black-striped frog starts its life as a tadpole. These tadpoles grow up in the calm, quiet parts of streams. This frog is quite common in the places where it lives.

Protecting the Black-Striped Frog

Even though it's a common frog, the black-striped frog faces some challenges. One big problem is when the trees that cover the streams it lives in are cut down. This loss of tree cover can harm the frog's home. Changes to the water flow in streams, like from dams or pollution, can also be a problem.

However, the IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) does not currently consider this frog to be in danger of disappearing. They keep an eye on animal populations around the world.
