Blackjack, Missouri facts for kids
Blackjack is a small, quiet place in St. Clair County, Missouri, in the Missouri state of the United States. It is known as an unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes and businesses that doesn't have its own local government, like a city or town would. Instead, it's part of the larger county.
History of Blackjack
This community got its name from the many blackjack oak trees that grew nearby when it was first settled. These trees are a type of oak with dark, rough bark.
For a while, Blackjack was also known by another name: "Sample." There was even a post office called Sample that opened in 1905. It helped people send and receive mail for about ten years before it closed in 1915.
