Blaine, Missouri facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Blaine is a small, unincorporated community located in Vernon County, in the U.S. state of Missouri. An unincorporated community means it's a place where people live, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town does. Instead, it's usually managed by the county.

A Look Back: Blaine's History

Blaine was officially platted in 1884. When a place is "platted," it means someone created a detailed map showing how the land was divided into lots, streets, and public areas. This is often the first step in planning a new community.

The community was named after an important person in American history: James G. Blaine. He was a well-known American statesman and a Republican politician from the 1800s. A statesman is someone who is experienced in leading a country's government, and a politician is someone who works in government, often by being elected to represent people.

Blaine also had its own post office. It opened in 1884, the same year the community was platted. However, it only stayed open for a few years, closing its doors in 1888.
