The Blanche River (which means "White River" in French) is a river in Quebec, Canada. It starts in Blanc Lake and flows through the areas of Lac-Blanc and Rivière-à-Pierre. These places are part of the Portneuf region. The river is located on the North Shore of the St. Lawrence River.

Exploring the Blanche River's Journey

The Blanche River has a large area it collects water from, covering about 203 square kilometers (78 square miles). It begins at Blanc Lake, where a dam helps control the water flow. Many smaller lakes around the area also feed into Blanc Lake.

How the River Flows

As the Blanche River moves downstream, its waters travel through a series of lakes. These include Lupe, Ralph, Gilles, Tony, Lietto, and Lorenzo lakes. Finally, the river reaches the village of Rivière-à-Pierre. Here, the Blanche River joins the larger Rivière à Pierre.

Nature and Wildlife Around the River

A big part of the Blanche River's area is protected and used for nature.

  • The middle section of the river's watershed is inside the Portneuf Wildlife Reserve. This reserve is a special place for animals and plants.
  • Further upstream, the northern part of the river's watershed is part of the Zec of the White River. A "Zec" is a controlled harvesting zone, which means it's managed for outdoor activities like fishing and hunting, but also for protecting nature. Lakes like Lorenzo and Tony are found within this Zec.
