Blanche Stocker's Life and Acting Career
Blanche Stocker was born in 1884 in Bombay, India. Her parents were George Stocker, an engineer, and Mary Dunn. Blanche was the oldest of three children. While her father stayed in India for work, her mother moved back to England with the children. They lived in London from at least 1891 to 1911. Blanche's younger sister, Doris Stocker, also became a singer and actress.
Blanche Stocker started her acting career in musicals. These were popular plays with songs and dances from the Edwardian era (early 1900s). She played Lucille in The Belle of Brittany in 1908 at the Queen's Theatre.
She worked for a famous producer named George Edwardes. For him, she played Lady Sybil Julia James in Our Miss Gibbs (1909). She was also Ethel in Peggy (1910). Later, she played Viola in The Girl on the Film (1913). All these shows were at the Gaiety Theatre in London's West End. She also performed The Girl on the Film on Broadway in New York City in 1913.
Blanche Stocker took on other roles too. She was Ruth Goldman/Miss Cohen in Potash and Perlmutter (1914–1915). This play was at the Queen's Theatre. She played a Lady-in-Waiting in Arlette (1917) at the Shaftesbury Theatre. She also appeared as Goo Goo in The Bing Boys Are Here (1916) and The Bing Girls Are There (1917). These shows were at the Alhambra Theatre.
In 1910, Blanche Stocker acted in a silent film called Winning a Widow. She played the character Jane.
Blanche Stocker passed away in 1950 in Kensington, London. She was 65 years old. She never married.
