Three species |
Blephilia is a group of three types of flowering plants. People sometimes call them Downy Pagoda Plant or Wood Mint. These plants belong to the Lamiaceae family, which is also known as the mint family.
All Blephilia plants are herbaceous. This means they have soft stems, not woody ones like trees. They grow naturally in eastern North America. You can often find them in thin forests. They also like to grow in soils made of granite and limestone.
Types of Blephilia Plants
There are three main types, or species, of Blephilia plants. Each one has its own special name.
- Blephilia ciliata is also known as the Downy pagoda-plant.
- Blephilia hirsuta is called the Hairy pagoda-plant.
- Blephilia subnuda is known as the Cumberland pagoda-plant.
Protecting Blephilia Plants
Some Blephilia species need special care. For example, Blephilia hirsuta and Blephilia ciliata are considered threatened or endangered in certain states. This means their numbers are getting very low. Efforts are being made to protect these plants. This helps make sure they can continue to grow in the wild.
