Blockbusters was a fun Australian TV game show. It was shown on the Seven Network from 1991 to 1994. In the show, students from different schools competed. They answered general knowledge questions. The host of the show was Michael Pope. The winning school team got a big prize, like an encyclopedia.

How the Game Was Played
The game board had 20 hexagon shapes. These hexagons were arranged in five columns. Each hexagon had a letter of the alphabet inside it.
Choosing a Question
A player would pick one of the letters. Then, the host would ask a general knowledge question. The correct answer to the question had to start with the chosen letter. For example, if a player picked 'P', the question might be: "What 'P' is a musical instrument with 88 keys?" The answer would be "piano."
Teams and Scoring
Two students from each school played in every match. Teams took turns answering questions. For each correct answer, the school team earned five points. These points added up over the week. The school with the most points at the end of the week won the main prize.
Winning a Match
The goal was to create a path across the board. One team tried to connect the top and bottom of the board. The other team tried to connect the left and right sides. The first team to make their path won the match. If the teams tied, a special smaller board was used to decide the winner.
The Gold Run Bonus Round
After winning a match, the players got to play the Gold Run. This was a special bonus round.
Gold Run Board
The Gold Run board also had hexagons. But instead of single letters, these hexagons had two to five letters. These letters were the initials of the correct answer. For example, if a hexagon showed "BS", the host might ask: "Where do people kiss in Ireland?" The answer would be "Blarney Stone."
How to Win the Gold Run
Players had 60 seconds to connect the left and right sides of the board. If a player answered correctly, the hexagon turned gold. If they answered incorrectly or passed, the hexagon turned black. Black hexagons blocked the path. Players had to find a way around them. If the board became completely blocked, the game ended early. Winning the Gold Run meant the player and their teammate won a small prize.
Blockbusters Board Game
A board game version of Blockbusters was released. It was made by Croner in the 1990s.
