Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Bloomfield is a small place in Muskingum County, Ohio, in the United States. It's known as an unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially a town or city with its own local government. Instead, it's part of the larger county.

A Look Back: Bloomfield's History

Bloomfield was first planned and mapped out in 1853. When a place is "laid out and platted," it means someone drew up a detailed map showing where streets, lots, and buildings would go.

The people who named Bloomfield thought of the pretty blooming flowers in the orchard fields nearby. That's how it got its name!

Even though it was called Bloomfield, the local post office had a different name: Sago. The Sago post office opened in 1857. It helped people send and receive mail for many years before it closed down in 1902.
