Blue Origin NS-19 mission patch

Blue Origin NS-19 was an exciting space mission operated by Blue Origin. It was a sub-orbital spaceflight, which means the spacecraft went into space but did not orbit the Earth. The mission launched on December 11, 2021. It was a short but amazing trip, lasting just over 10 minutes!

This flight carried six people into space aboard the New Shepard rocket. It was a special journey for everyone on board.

Meet the Crew

The NS-19 mission had a crew of six civilians. Each person had a unique story.

Famous Faces and Firsts

  • Laura Shepard Churchley is the daughter of Alan Shepard. He was the first American to travel into space! The New Shepard rocket program is even named after him.
  • Michael Strahan is a well-known TV personality and former professional football player. He was a star for the New York Giants. Today, he is a co-anchor on Good Morning America. He also works as an analyst for Fox NFL Sunday. Both Laura and Michael flew as special guests of Blue Origin.

Other Passengers

  • Dylan Taylor is an executive.
  • Evan Dick is an investor.
  • Lane Bess is the founder of Bess Ventures.
  • Cameron Bess is Lane Bess's child. This flight was historic because Lane and Cameron became the first parent and child to fly into space together! Cameron also became the youngest American to fly to space at 23 years old.

Mission Patch

Every space mission has a special patch. The mission patch for NS-19 had the initials of Glen de Vries. He had flown on Blue Origin's previous crewed flight, NS-18. The patch honored him.

Flight Details

The NS-19 mission used the New Shepard rocket, specifically the NS4 vehicle. It launched from a place called Corn Ranch, at launch site LS-1. After its quick trip to space and back, the spacecraft landed safely back at Corn Ranch. The entire flight lasted 10 minutes and 13 seconds, reaching an altitude of about 107 kilometers (66 miles).
