Blue Rock State Park is a fun outdoor spot in Ohio. It's about 11 miles southeast of Zanesville in Muskingum County. This park covers 322 acres and is surrounded by the much larger Blue Rock State Forest, which is 4,573 acres! It's a great place to enjoy nature and outdoor activities.
Park History
The land that makes up Blue Rock State Forest was first bought by the state in 1936. A few years later, in 1938, a dam was built to create Cutler Lake. This lake is a central part of the park today. Blue Rock State Park officially opened in 1949. This happened when the Division of Parks and Recreation was created.
Things to Do at Blue Rock State Park
Blue Rock State Park offers many exciting activities for visitors. You can have a blast on Cutler Lake, which is perfect for swimming and boating. If you enjoy fishing, the lake is also a great spot to cast a line.
The park has areas for camping, so you can spend a night or more under the stars. There are also nature trails where you can hike and explore the beautiful surroundings. Picnicking facilities are available for outdoor meals with family and friends. The larger Blue Rock State Forest, which surrounds the park, also allows hunting in designated areas.
