Bluff Maritime Museum

The Bluff Maritime Museum is found in Bluff, New Zealand's most southern port. This museum is on Foreshore Road. It holds a huge collection of items that tell the story of Bluff's connection to the sea.

The museum first opened its doors in November 1992. It celebrated its 20th birthday in 2012 and 2013.

About the Bluff Maritime Museum

Bluff is a very old place. It is close to Omaui, an ancient Māori village. It is also the oldest European settlement in New Zealand. Because of this, Bluff's history shows how two cultures came together. The sea has always been super important to the people living there.

What You Can See

The museum has many cool things to see. You can find displays about the sea, old tools, tiny models, and real boats. There are also lots of photos. A special working engine, called a triple expansion engine, is also on display.

The most popular item is a full-sized boat used for catching oysters. Its name is the Monica. The Jones family kindly gave it to the museum. Visitors can even climb inside and look around the whole boat! The museum also shows art that pictures Bluff in its early days. Back then, it was known as Campbelltown.
