History of the Park
White Water Grand Prairie (1982-1985)
The park first opened in July 1982 as a water park named "White Water." It was built by a company called Herschend Family Entertainment. White Water was part of a fun area in Grand Prairie. This area also had other attractions like Lion Country Safari.
In late 1985, another water park company, Wet 'n Wild, bought White Water. They decided to close it down. This was to avoid having two water parks competing so close to each other. Wet 'n Wild had their own park just 5 miles (8 km) away in Arlington, Texas.
The city council of Grand Prairie was not happy about the closure. They tried to stop the park from being taken apart. However, they later realized it would cost too much money to take control of the park. So, the park remained closed.
Boardwalk Fun Park (1991-1992)
After being closed for several years, the park was redeveloped in 1991 and 1992. It was given a new name: Boardwalk Fun Park. The new owners used many of the old structures and rides from the White Water park.
The park faced some delays while being built. It also needed special approvals for its rides. Boardwalk Fun Park finally opened in July 1992. Sadly, in September 1992, one of the roller coasters had an unfortunate incident and was closed.
The owners hoped to open the park again for the 1993 season, but this did not happen. Boardwalk Fun Park stayed closed for several years. In 1996, a car company bought the land. By April 1997, all the park's rides and buildings were removed. A car dealership was built on the site in 1999.
