Early Life and Draft
Bob Jones was born on October 22, 1961. He is an Indigenous Australian. He grew up in Darwin, which is in the Northern Territory of Australia.
Before joining the big VFL league, Bob played for the Devonport team. This team was part of the Northern Tasmanian Football League (NTFL). In 1987, the St Kilda Football Club chose him in the National Draft. He was the 44th player picked that year.
Playing for St Kilda
Bob Jones started playing for St Kilda in the 1988 VFL season. He was 26 years old when he made his debut. During that year, he played 19 games. He played as a ruckman, which is a player who tries to tap the ball down to teammates after a bounce or throw-up. He also played in defence, helping to stop the other team from scoring.
Bob was also chosen to be part of the Northern Territory squad. This team played in the 1988 Adelaide Bicentennial Carnival, which was a special football event.
Injury and Final Game
Sadly, Bob Jones got a serious knee injury in the very first game of the 1989 VFL season. This game was against the Brisbane Bears at Moorabbin Oval. He tore a ligament in his knee, which meant he could not play for the rest of the season. This injury turned out to be his last game for St Kilda. He played a total of 20 games for the club.
