Robert Bolt: A Footballer's Story
Early Career and Big Moves
Robert Bolt was born in Lochgelly, Scotland. He started his professional football journey with Heart of Midlothian. After that, he played for Dunfermline Athletic. He then moved to Falkirk.
At Falkirk, Robert played so well that he was chosen for a special tour. This tour, organized by the Scottish Football Association, went to North America in May 1939. His great playing also caught the eye of Rangers. Rangers were the national champions at the time. They signed him in May 1939.
Wartime Football and Later Years
However, just a few months after joining Rangers, World War II began. This meant that all his games for Rangers were unofficial. They didn't count in the official records. During the war, he played one game for Scotland in 1940. This was an international match against a team from Ireland. But he never got to play an official game for the main Scotland team.
Robert also played for Third Lanark during the war. He stayed with them for one season after official competitions started again. Then he returned to Falkirk for another year. During this time, he played in the Scottish League Cup Final. His team, Falkirk, lost to East Fife in that final.
Later in his career, Robert moved to Inverness. There, he played for Caledonian in the Highland League. He even played in a Scottish Cup game against Dundee United in January 1952. This was just one day after his 40th birthday! Robert's son, also named Bobby, later played for the same club.
