The Sweet History of Bobs Candies
Bobs Candies began in 1919. It was first called the Famous Candy Company. Robert E. McCormack started it in Albany, Georgia. In 1924, he changed the name to Bobs' Candy Company. Later, the apostrophe was removed. Today, Bobs Candies is the biggest maker of striped candy in the world!
Cool Inventions in Candy Making
Robert McCormack was very innovative. He was the first candy maker to wrap his candy in cellophane. This kept the candy fresh.
A family member also helped invent amazing machines. In 1952, they created a machine to twist and cut stick candy. Just one year later, in 1953, they invented a machine to bend the sticks into a cane shape. This machine was called the Keller Machine. It completely changed the candy business! It made it possible to make many candy canes for everyone to enjoy.
Who Owns Bobs Candies Now?
In 2005, the McCormack family sold Bobs Candies. It was bought by Farley & Sathers. Later, in 2012, Farley & Sathers joined with Ferrara Pan. This new company became known as the Ferrara Candy Company.
