"Boku wa Kuma" (ぼくはくま, lit. I'm a Bear) is a fun song by the famous Japanese singer, Hikaru Utada. It was her 17th single released in Japan. The song came out on November 22, 2006. This was just a few months after her album Ultra Blue and her "Utada United 2006" tour ended.

About the Song "Boku wa Kuma"

"Boku wa Kuma" was Utada's first time writing a song especially for children. It first played on a children's music show called Minna no Uta on October 1, 2006. People loved the song so much that it was played again and again from October 2006 to January 2007!

This song was released in three different versions. You could get a special limited edition that came with a picture book. There was also a regular single, and a combo pack with the CD and a DVD that included the music video.

The song is all about a bear. It talks about what the bear can do and what he cannot do. It also mentions things the bear is not, like a car or chocolate. The bear even has a funny rival: a fried shrimp!

Utada Hikaru actually owns a stuffed bear named Kuma-chan. "Kuma" means "bear" in Japanese, and "-chan" is a cute way to add to a name. She often shares pictures of Kuma-chan on her blog. She even found out Kuma-chan was "made in China," so she gave him the full name "Kuma Chang." Kuma-chan even got a special staff pass for her "Utada United 2006" concert tour!

Utada also performed "Boku wa Kuma" live during her "Utada: In The Flesh 2010" tour in Boston. She also sang it at her "Wild Life" concerts in December 2010.
