Songwriter facts for kids
A songwriter is a person who creates songs. They write the words (lyrics) and the music for songs. Songwriters usually create music for popular music, which is heard on the radio or in movies.
Many songwriters are also singers. They perform the songs they write themselves. These people are called singer-songwriters. Other songwriters write songs for different singers or bands to perform.
How Songs Began
People have been writing and singing songs for thousands of years! Experts believe that even in prehistory, long before written history, people made up and sang songs.
Today, many bands have one or two members who write all their songs. Sometimes, more members of a band help write songs, or the whole band gets credit for creating them. Other bands perform songs written by people outside the band.
