Bonnie Somerville is an American actress and singer. She was born on February 26, 1974. She has acted in many movies and TV shows. You might know her best as Mona from seven episodes of the popular show Friends. She also appeared in shows like NYPD Blue, The O.C., and Code Black.
Early Life and Starting Out
Bonnie Somerville grew up in Brooklyn, New York. She loved acting and singing from a young age. She performed in plays at her high school, Poly Prep Country Day School. Later, she studied Musical Theater at Boston College.
When she was 22, Bonnie moved to Los Angeles. This is where many actors go to start their careers. She put together a music band and found an agent to help her get acting jobs.
Her Acting and Singing Career
First Roles and Big Breaks
Bonnie's first acting job was a small part in the 1996 movie City Hall. In 1999, she had a main role in a TV mini-series called Shake, Rattle and Roll: An American Love Story. She even sang in that show!
In 2000, Bonnie starred in the TV series Grosse Pointe. This show was about what happens behind the scenes of a fake TV soap opera.
Becoming Mona on Friends
One of Bonnie's most famous roles was playing Mona on the TV show Friends. She was on the show for seven episodes in its eighth season. Mona was the girlfriend of one of the main characters, Ross Geller.
Bonnie also had small parts in movies like Bedazzled (2000) and Spider-Man 2 (2004). She was also in the adventure comedy Without a Paddle (2004).
More TV Shows and Music
In 2003, Bonnie got a recurring role on the teen drama The O.C.. She played Rachel Hoffman, a former co-worker of the character Sandy Cohen. She even appeared on the cover of Stuff magazine a couple of times!
Bonnie starred in the comedy show Kitchen Confidential in 2005. She also had a supporting role as Detective Laura Murphy in the last season of NYPD Blue.
Besides acting, Bonnie is a singer. Her song "Winding Road" was featured on the soundtrack for the movie Garden State. She also sang backup vocals on Joshua Radin's album We Were Here. Bonnie was part of a charity band called Band from TV. Other actors like Hugh Laurie and James Denton were also in the band.
Later Roles and Recent Work
In 2008, Bonnie played Caitlin Dowd in the TV show Cashmere Mafia. This show was about four successful women balancing their careers and personal lives in New York City.
She also appeared in several movies, including the romantic comedy Labor Pains (2009) with Lindsay Lohan. Other movies include The Ugly Truth (2009) and The Search for Santa Paws (2010).
Bonnie has had guest roles on many TV shows, such as Royal Pains and The Mentalist. In 2011, she starred in the Hallmark Channel Christmas movie A Holiday Engagement, where she sang "Angels We Have Heard On High".
From 2013 to 2016, Bonnie had main roles in two CBS crime and medical drama series. She played Detective Mackenzie in Golden Boy and Dr. Christa Lorenson in the first season of Code Black. More recently, she has appeared in Blue Bloods and Law & Order.
