Boone Square facts for kids
Boone Square is a cool park in Louisville, Kentucky. It's one of the parks designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, a super famous park designer! This park is located in the Portland neighborhood. It's a full city block big. Boone Square first opened its gates to everyone on July 1, 1891.
What Makes Boone Square Special?
Boone Square is surrounded by a low stone wall. There are special entrances at each corner. You can also enter in the middle of each side. This park is bordered by 19th Street on the west. Duncan Street is on the south side. 20th Street is on the east. Rowan Street is on the north.
Fun Things to Do at the Park
Boone Square has lots of fun things for kids and families.
- There are two different areas with play equipment.
- You can play basketball on the court.
- There's a baseball or softball diamond for games.
- In the summer, a raised patio sprinkler is perfect for water play.
- A small picnic gazebo is on the south end. It's great for snacks or lunch.
- Restrooms are available on the north side of the park.
A Look at History
You can find special plaques on the south wall of the park. These plaques tell interesting stories. One plaque says that Louisville's first organized baseball game happened right here! Another plaque tells you that Frederick Law Olmsted designed the park. He planned out how the park would look and feel.
